“A Wall of directory illustrating the location of the women’s Star Studios. When this picture was taken in 1937, the name of recently deceased actress Jean Harlow had just been removed, and in fact is still poignantly visible on line A”

Second picture is of the directory of the men’s Star Studio

Old Hollywood’s Response to Mommie Dearest:
“Joan was a fine mother to Tina, she spoiled her beyond belief, though. What Tina has done in return is disgusting.”
- Gloria Swanson

“Excuse me while I toss my lunch.”

- Barbara Stanwyck

“I was never close to Joan, but I found that sickening.”

- Katherine Hepburn

“It makes me want to cry.”

- Doris Day

“I can’t understand why Christina would do something like this, it’s terrible.”

- Ava Gardner

“That’s not the Joan I knew.”

- Douglas Fairbanks Jr.

“I knew both Tina and Joan pretty well. Every time I saw Tina, she seemed almost jealous of Joan; It’s like she wanted to be Joan. I swear, that Brat made me glad I didn’t have kids.”

- Myrna Loy

“Nobody Deserves a Death like that.”

- Marlene Dietrich

“Now I know why tigers eat their young.”

- Bob Hope

I guess everthing was explained very well here.

“Joan and I approached being movie stars in a different way. She liked to take limos everywhere; she was much ‘grander,’ for lack of a better word, and maybe I was much more down to earth, but so what? Joan certainly wasn’t the only movie star who liked the champagne and limousine treatment. I can tell you that when you made a friend in Joan you had a friend for life. She never forgot your birthday, and you’d get a congratulatory note from her when good things happened in your life. She cared about people and her friends, no matter what anybody says. I liked her, and I miss her, and I think her daughter’s stories are pure bunk. Even if they were true, if ever there was a girl who needed a good whack it was spoiled, horrible Christina. Believe me, there were many times I wanted to smack her myself.”

see, Myrna says Tina’s story is pure bullshit :) and I will stick to that :)

Old Hollywood on Joan Crawford, part 1:

“She had more will power than anyone else I knew… her drive for success was so great. She had a slended figure, beautiful legs… The thing I think people don’t know about Joan, unless they knew Lucille, was that she was a terrible fretter. She worried a lot. She was the opposite of care free. Care filled, I guess you’d say. I remember one time, her eyes were filled with tears. It was the only time I ever saw Lucille, or Joan, cry. It was right after she changed her name. Joan just never complained, not about her difficult childhood or about her difficult children-Christina and Christopher made me glad I didn’t have kids. Not even when she was dying and in pain did she let anyone know. The reason she was upset was she was having so much trouble fending off the executives at M-G-M. SOme of them were very powerful, and they were touching and grabbing her, she didn’t know what to do. She didn’t want them doing it, but she feared for her career. Joan was a girl of principle, even back when she was Lucille”
