rhaenysing: I was reading about Carole Lombard the other day and read that after her tragic death, Joan took her role in They All Kissed The Bride and gave her entire salary from the film to the Red Cross for helping recover the bodies from the crash. I was like, fuck yeah Joan!

yes, that’s what she did! After that Mommie Dearest bullcrap, many people believe that this is how Joan was, but almost no one knows that she really had a heart of gold, she supported many charities etc; for instance, she used to anonymously pay for surgeries and other medical treatments for the retired crew members in Hollywood (cameramen etc.) whose families couldn’t afford to pay for it. She was a truly kind woman!

btw, ‘They All Kissed the Bride’ is one of my favourite Joan movies :)

“Joan was so vital it’s difficult to realize she is no more; vital in voice, thinking and movement. It was with this vitality, among other things, that the chorus girl, Lucille LeSueur, painstakingly shaped herself into Joan Crawford, and Joan Crawford painstakingly shaped herself into the great star she remained until she died - and the legend she is sure to be.” - Modern Screen
